“Music begins where the possibilities of language end.”

Biography

Oleksandra Shevchenko is a Ukrainian-born Netherlands-based composer (film and autonomous), with a degree in Classical piano and Composition for Film and Theater. Currently working on several short movies planned for a release next year after the festival round.

“I draw inspiration from my own personal experiences as well as
from nature and works of other composers. When I write music for film, I aim to enhance the mood that’s
already in the picture in a grounded yet emotional way.

I tend to use raw realism in my music
to help the audience connect and
identify with it. I enjoy working with drama and animation, writing piano music and experimenting with synths, soundscapes and ambient scores.”

In the past Oleksandra has scored a few short films and animations, as well as a feature sci-fi horror movie which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime, and for which she won the Best Sound Award (Carpe Diem Film Festival 2023), shared with sound designers Will Morton and Logan Eason.

As an autonomous composer, she has written music for orchestra, choir, piano, cello, carillon, string ensemble, string quartet, and synthesizers.
